US calls for “real” elections in Venezuela and suspension of the OAS

The vice president of the United States, Mike Pence, called on Monday to Venezuela to organize “real elections” instead of the “scam” scheduled for May 20, and asked that the country be suspended from the Organization of American States (OAS) .

In a speech before a special session of the Permanent Council of the OAS, in Washington, Pence made a call for President Nicol├ís Maduro to “suspend that election scam and organize real elections.”

During the speech approximately of half an hour -during which the chair of the Venezuelan delegation remained empty-, Vice President Pence said that “the so-called elections scheduled for May 20 are nothing more than a fraud and a scam.”

In addition, Pence requested the OAS to suspend Venezuela from the entity.

The countries that make up the continental organization, he said, must “fulfill their old commitment of democracy and freedom”
