The United States ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, will visit Honduras and Guatemala next week to discuss cooperation in the fight against corruption and against drug trafficking, according to her office.Haley plans to meet with government and civil society leaders in both countries, as well as with communities affected by drug trafficking, violence and human trafficking, the US mission said in a statement.
The diplomat will be in Central America between Monday and Thursday, but for now the details of her agenda have not been disclosed
Haley is part of the cabinet of US President Donald Trump, and is one of the most influential figures in the country’s foreign policy under the current administration.
In addition to important relations with the US, both Honduras and Guatemala have open issues now with the United Nations.
In the case of Honduran , a mission of the organization visited the country recently to learn details of the dialogue convened by the Government to resolve the electoral crisis.
Guatemala, for its part, wants to review with the UN the functioning of the International Commission Against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG) and has complained insistently about the organization of the work of its leader, the Colombian Iván Velásquez. (EFE)
