The dialogue between Washington and Pyongyang has allowed “real progress” towards the organization of the historic summit between Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump, who said he expects a message from the North Korean leader on this issue.
The US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, was optimistic at the end of his meeting with Kim’s right hand. He assured that the discussions with North Korea are “on the right track”, although he left the effective realization of the summit in the hands of Pyongyang, noting that even the North Korean government has not taken the decision to abandon its nuclear program, one of the conditions raised by the US to make the expected meeting.
The head of US diplomacy, also took the opportunity to flatter the North Korean leader saying that he hopes to take a step forward: “President Trump and I believe that President Kim is the kind of leader who can make such decisions” , he stressed.
Pompeo met on Thursday in New York with Gen. Kim Yong Chol, the highest ranking official in Pyongyang.
