The Department of The Treasury has confirmed that the president of Venezuela, the dictator Nicolás Maduro, has been definitively included in the main list of drug traffickers in the world.
Maduro, who until a few years ago was presented by President Juan Manuel Santos as his “new best friend”, would have been included to this list because of his financial links with drug cartels that have their seat in Venezuela, and because of his alleged relationships with proven cases of Narcotics outlets run by government officials.
Previously, the Prosecutor’s Office of the Southern District of New York released a document that revealed that Nicolás Maduro had approved the drug trafficking actions undertaken by his nephews.
Prosecutor Joon H. Kim assures that there is sufficient evidence that Efraín Antonio Campo Flores and Franqui Francisco Flores de Freitas were predisposed to commit the crime of drug trafficking as they maintained contact with cocaine suppliers and with members of the FARC, while that presumably counted on the approval of the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro.
Until now there is no reaction from the Venezuelan leader, with the measures taken by the US government.
