Criminal NGO Forum reported that the Venezuelan government detained for political purposes more than 12,000 people since 2014, while recommended the release of all imprisoned.
“This is definitely the government with the largest number of political prisoners in the history of Venezuela. (…) We are talking about 12,098 arrests for political purposes since 2014, ” Chief Executive Penal Forum said at a news conference Alfredo Romero.
The activist did not specify how many of the 12,098 detainees remain in Venezuelan prisons or under what conditions. The NGO reported last December that at least 216 of these prisoners, whom they recognized as “political prisoners” remain in detention centers.
