The government of the president of Paraguay, Horacio Cartes, will move his embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, the Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.
Paraguay will be the third country in America that will move its diplomatic headquarters to Jerusalem, after the United States and Guatemala.
In a brief statement, the Foreign Ministry stressed that “it initiated a process of execution of the presidential decision and imparted the corresponding instructions to the diplomatic representation of Paraguay in Israel.”
“We are very grateful for the important decision to move the Paraguayan embassy. This decision by (President Horacio) Cartes is just and courageous, “Israeli Ambassador Zeev Harel told ABC newspaper in Asunción.
Two days ago, a message from the Israeli government on social networks had celebrated the intention, now confirmed in Asunción, to move the diplomatic legation.
