At least 6 killed by an explosion at a chemical plant near Prague, Czech Republic

The explosion occurred this morning at the facilities of the Polish company Synthos, which manufactures rubber and polystyrene.

At least six people have been killed and several injured by an explosion at a chemical plant in Kralupy nad Vltavou, 20 kilometers north of Prague, local fire services reported.

“We have received information about six dead and other seriously injured people,” spokeswoman Vladimira Kerekova,

The Prague-Vinohrady hospital has activated an emergency plan and is preparing to receive a “significant number” of injured people.

The accident, which has not caused any fire, took place after 09.00 GMT in the facilities of the Polish company Synthos, which manufactures rubber and polystyrene.

So far the causes of the explosion are unknown, local authorities reported.
